Identify the bike challenge!

Dick Spanner

Retro Newbie
Hi everyone, I thought it might be fun to let you guys have a stab at identifying my old steed having dug it out from the very darkest corner of my garage following a slight setback with my newly recommisioned Orange E3.

Please excuse the poor quality of the pics and the poor state of the bike. It was my first mountain bike which I bough second hand and was very much used and abused.

blimey, that's a strange old beast

531 with a triple triangle and drum(?) brakes

looks highly specced for it's age though, has mavic rims by the look of the stickers

Aint no GT, the tripple triangle (although still ugly as anything) doesn't feature the top tube piercing the seat tube.

Interesting bike, I like the rack mount.

It's got Dawes cranks! So I'm going for Dawes. They would have been using Reynolds.

Frame / weld quality looks too good to be a GT!

And lovin' the shoulder pad

Excellent replies so far.

Roberto gets the dunces hat for guessing the obvious and in this case incorrect GT.

Also, I like to think that it is so pink, it's positively macho.

The Dawes crank is a red herring, I had to replace one and was given it!

going by the the 531 stickers, thats from around 1986, there were lots of stuff out the using hub brakes.

its as cool as **** is what it is.
