Identify DEAN seatpost

Hi all,

As a bonus this seatpost was fitted on a Voodoo Wanga frame that I recently bought.
Some charasteristics point out that I have at least a genuine Dean product,
although the length is not mentioned in the '94 brochure; 360 versus 380 mm?

But is it an alloy one?
Is it titanium?
or even the rarer Matrix composite?

Including the head the thing weighs 311 gr
Color differences point in the direction of worn-out anodisation.
It;s not magnetic.

No jokes of the kind 'I'll swap my wife for it' :)

The weight sounds quite a heavy for a high quality product like DEAN. The brochure stated weight is al lot less. Looks genuine though. They may have measured the 360 mm from the top of the tube, not from the rails.

Are you sure you have the scale showing right?

Hi Vesatoro,

Double checked the scale, correct.
But ..... it seems possible the loose bits were not included?
Than the scale points out in the aluminium direction.

That's not fair play! :D

Yeah, for sure it's aluminium (or steel), titanium almost always is raw grey coloured, not anodized. I was just thinking if they have made steel version also, that would explain the weight. Some stainless steels are not attracted by magnet I think.

Post is genuine DEAN. Does it have the Y shape ribbing inside the tube? I have an Al and a Ti model of these. The Ti one I have weighed and I'm sure is way over the quoted weight. Most of the mass is in the clamp.
Funnily my aluminium one was bought with the top half of the post buffed to silver while the bottom half is black. I wonder if this was a bodge following anodising fade like yours?
I'll post the weight of my 2 when if get a chance.
