Identification of bits that came from a Marin IFT

There was a seatpost in a shim, it's 25.4mm, while the seattube seems to be 31mm.
Also the was one quick release, wich seems to be from a Marin Team Issue 1993? I saw on a search for what it was it has the same seatpost quick release.

Anyone know what these are?
Cheers

Its a USE seatpost, 25mm diameter, uses different size shims depending on what frame you want to use it in.

Ah, I thought it said USA for some odd reason.
It's a plastic/rubber shim, it's long too. So it's safe to use with that shim, I'm not fond of using them.

Yes, they are designed to be used with the shim, you can buy the shims in all sizes for all frames, works out easier sometimes than trying to find rare sized seatposts. I use them in a lot of my bikes. Best to make sure you use a proper USE shim, which are made longer to protect the frame, either made in plastic or metal, other shims are usually 25.4 id whereas the USE is 25 id.

Thanks, I might look for one for my Syncros post. it's 26.8 (from a Zaskar LE)

The shims are for USE posts, which mostly are 25mm diameter., some are 27mm diameter also, you buy a shim for the USE post so you can use it in frames that do not have a 25mm seat tube.

This is from another forum;

In fact, there is a U.S.E. shim I can use, so I've ordered it. They have a thermo-plastic shim for a 27.2 seatpost in a 32.0 frame, which is exactly the same size difference (4.8mm) as 26.8 post in 31.6 frame. I might just have to widen the slot in the shim, depending on how narrow it is to start with, to allow it to fit in the 0.4mm smaller diameter seat tube.

People are resourceful it seems. 👍

You can bodge anything, coke cans are a popular option for shimming.
