Idenifying 1970s Zeus *Edited to include pictures*

Purchased a couple of bikes last week to keep me entertained during lockdown. Original plan was to build a fixie/single speed, but I don't know if I should with this one....

Although described as a Ritchey I don't think that's the case. And that was the full description from the seller.

I am still waiting delivery, should be with me tomorrow, but I thought I would do some research on what it "actually is" which might help my decision on what to do with it.

So far I am willing to believe it is a Zeus frame and looks to have Stronglight Cranks, Nisi Mixer rims, Shimano 600 levers.

Is there someone here with a knowledge of these bikes, info seems pretty limited. Is it even half decent ?

Not a clue. Info seems to be really limited on Zues bikes.

Checked the likes of Velobase and scoured the forums that I am aware of for info.

Having identified a couple of items such as cranks etc it suggests it could be an interesting bike.

I appreciate its had a few "updates" over the years judging by the stem, but the forks and majority of component's looks 70s / 80s

Zeus (for the record)... The waterbottle under the saddle must have been filled with something heavier than water

Good point well made. Maybe I do need an early night after all.

It's been living in Glasgow, could have been filled with anything.

Looks to be a fully chromed frame, from the photos it appears to be in good condition.

The small Zeus accessories decal looks like it could be genuine, so perhaps the frame was originally fitted with a Zeus group?

A google image search of Zeus bike throws up a few bikes with similar decals and lugs, so it could well be a Zeus frame.

I've only seen two Spanish frames from the 70s/80s and they both had French threads, so have a look at the bottom bracket.

Good fun project anyhow!

Well it finally arrived.

Its stamped as Reynolds Butted on the frame and stamped butted on the forks. Other than stickers no definitive Zeus stamps that i have found so far.

It does have a Zeus front mech, headset and seat post. But that's about it.

Annoyingly now its arrived i have no love for it. Not helped by the twist in the forks and buckled rear wheel that apparently happened in transit.

Will see how i feel about it tomorrow, might end up in the parts for sale section very soon.

So I decided to at least clean it. And found Zeus stamps on the drop outs under the dirt.

Felt a bit better after this discovery. Looks better for a tidy up and has some pretty components.

But I still have little love for it, so once its going to end up for sale to make way for a Pista that I should have bought in the first place. If anyone has one and fancies a swap of some form
