Best way is to try and then add / remove links as necessary. It depends on the mech / cage and chainstay length so there is no "rule" as such.

I do lots of modern stuff, and normally set the lower pulley at 6 O'clock with chain on smallest rear cog and big ring , sometimes it has to be at 5pm as others have said depends on the chainstays and rear ratios.. triples can be interesting , but thats not a problem here.. i think its about right, but lets have a shot of it on the big ring please Ian.. will
