I was gobsmacked

The alledged circumstances don't add up to me . Staring out pedestrians and revving your engine , I can kind of picture that , bot not at 30 -35mph . You would simply be going too fast to be able to stare at anyone IMO .
She will have to live with the consequences . That's a punishment of sorts , but I think she should get years inside , and banned for a long time
Mike

They add up to me, she dipped her clutch and revved the engine as she approached the crossing staring at the 2 she was trying to intimidate, not seeing the old woman because she was looking elsewhere. Don't see how doing 35mph would prevent her staring at pedestrians on side of road.

Changing the subject somewhat , are you in favour of Scottish independance ? Just curious

just that we are not all infallible, that any one of us could face something similar at any time,

Alison

No, none of us are infallible, but for any of us to face something similar we'd have to make a conscious decision to drive at a pedestrian crossing at 35mph when there are people on with the intention of scaring them off it by indicating you weren't going to stop. She didn't stop.

I can sympathise to an extent with the lorry-driver in your example as he was stupidly careless with dire results.
The girl set out to strike fear into people.

All willing to comment but no one seems to have read anything I've written, at no point have I said anyone can go out and kill as long as they feel guilty about it, or that she should not suffer the full force of the law, or that she was not driving carelessly, just that we are not all infallible, that any one of us could face something similar at any time, and before you say it won't, there are many people in this world that have said that and ended up in the dock.

I think your words have been read properly (well, I read them :) ) - while you make a very good point that any one of us can be careless and potentially cause injury or death without intending to, that clearly isn't the case here.
The tragic event that happened with your bro-in-law's Dad was simply due to a driver developing a careless habit and not paying enough attention to the road ahead. If, however, the accident had occurred because the lorry driver was racing another vehicle, using a mobile phone, or trying to intimidate a pedestrian on the pavement, I can't imagine that the family's attitude to him would have been quite the same.
Likewise, if the girl had simply been daydreaming or not concentrating enough, it wouldn't have been reported so widely, or invoked people's anger.

EDIT: OCP put it far more succinctly:

I think I made the same point prior to being accused of recommending her hanging, drawing and quartering.
This sort of behaviour should be made an example of. Especially when they're caught.

I for one think we should bring back the birch.

Forget Scottish independence, what about Rutland?

But, but I thought Rutland was independent, they certainly had their own TV station back in the '70's called Rutland Weekend Television. I know that because I watched it.

Don't have anything like that but have always liked Neil Innes, who could forget the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band.
My teenage years are made more memorable by watching Monty Python in the '60's too.

Listened to that on YouTube recently, was singing along with my 2 daughters looking at me as if I was mental.
I don't care, what a memory to treasure, the fun we had. :D
