i got a helmet cam, haven't used it since last year, but i've had 2 different ones, i had been using a normal camcorder with an extra camera mounted to my helmet with a 9volt battery that transmitted the image to a signal box with it's own power source which was then plugged into the camcorder. it worked pretty well but you have to change the batteries quite often coz when they start to wear out and it massively affects the picture quality. it was quite light overall and wasn't restrictively big or anything.
the second one i had plugs straight into the camcorder just with an external power source but it's wired but the picture is so much better but with the wire it can get in the way a bit but it is so much easier to mount to stuff, i find helmet mount is a bit dull coz your head doesn't lean when you corner, if you mount the camera on your bike you see the affects of leaning so much more, under the saddle is good, you get to see forks going up and down, looks cool.
madison do a helmet cam for a bit over £130 and they are supposed to be quite good, i know a guy who works at a local jessops camera shop and he helped me with my system (haven't got a clue about the model etc) but the footage i have is pretty good from the alps etc.
hey tintin, i did try it in traffic one evening to see how it was at night, got cut up by a knob in a car, chased the sod down to the next traffic light, went mental at him and pointed out the camera on my helmet, he cacked his pants!!!
i will be putting some footage on youtube at somepoint but i bought the software to sort it all out but i'm having trouble with the system at the mo. the system being me, coz i'm crap with technology!
