My dad just gave me his old road bike. I have no intention of ever parting with it but I'd love to know if it is desirable or not? I'm more into MTB's and don't usually look in the road bike bit :roll:
I'd say it dates from around 1980 ish

Nice enough in its day. Nothing rare or especially collectable though. Worth hanging onto though, esp for the obvious reasons.

Dump the shimano mechs and fit some period Campagnolo mechs, it will set it all of nicely.

Certain Carltons are quite sort after at the mo, espesh 531 stuff.

A good buffing up off the alloy parts with chrome polish will improve the looks on this one greatly.

Should be fairly fast. Change all the cables, set it up for your vital statistics and ride the mutha.

Just been out for a blast round Exeter on the Carlton, basically the first time I've been on a road bike. It's very fast, twitchy and uncomfortable, I hate riding on the road with all the cars, changing gear is a nightmare, the brakes are crap, but other than that it was ok!
