Why doesn't the Queen save up for her new boat?

She receives 7,900,000 of tax payers pounds every year, so it would only take a little over 10 years.

Or, she could just buy it herself with the billions she has stashed away. Also, the Scottish people may want Balmoral back when Scotland 'does one', and has a say in it's own affairs, without inteference from a bunch of rich Southern English political ponces. That may raise a couple of quid.

Shouldve bought her a top of the range Rangerover instead.

It's a bit of a socks at Christmas dilemma..

Thanks,It's very nice but I really wanted a...

Because we are stupid and will pay for it  21st C and we still have a Royal family.

One thing that made me laugh was when I heard Charlie was all for it!!!

That bloke is a proper tit and would be my first in line for a kickin', come the Revolution. He wants people to be kind to the environment, but wants his mum to buy a f****** ship to swan around the planet, what a turd of a man.

Naah he's hedging his bets. Sea travel isnt getting good write ups at the moment and he isn't getting any nearer to the throne. if the pirates wont do for her, the captain might. He has this bloke he's heard of..

Long live the queen and may she live happily on the minuscule
percentage of my tax money that it costs to have her and her family in a position that would other wise be held by yet another whim of a politician.

I'm a tad conflicted over it (not the boat thing - don't give a stuff so long as it's not public money / tax revenue).

As you say, probably a minuscule affect on individual taxation - but the alternative, doesn't necessarily equate to anything much more than the current prime minister's accoutrements (I'm looking at the USA as an example, there).

On the plus side, they probably add some value, and have some bearing on diplomacy, trade, and the tourism and travel industry.

On the downside, tradition, the concept that some people are naturally and inherently superior merely because of the family they are in (which if you think about it, is rather specious logic), rather than any other objective or arbitrary measure (eg intellect, genetic excellence, exemplary morals and ethics, natural decorum and leadership qualities...).

Given that society has largely evolved beyond dogmatic rhetoric and tradition, and has become much more of a meritocracy, logic says nay, yet my heart still (albeit very quietly) says yay.

In the words of Harry Hill...
