Hydraulic gear shifters - the future?

gorgeous though they look, why fix what isn't broken ?
your gonna have to double up on the hose which is gonna make any build that doesn't have internal routing look majorly untidy in my oppinion.

i can imagine fine tuning would be a nightmare too with no barrel adjusters.

That is lovely  can't help but feel electronic is coming though.

im with kaiser here
electronic would be the future

small electronic stepper motors would be able to move the mech fractions of a mm every time where as hydro is not quite so accurate and could be fine tuned quickly through your lap top (as long as the manufacturer supplies it as a open system not locked so you have to go to official repair centre  )

also i think the electronic way would weigh slightly less and would be easyer for internal routing of wiring

Looks great in red but not sure I could handle more hydraulics on my bike. Would think that the current electronic units will be honed for the move forward.

If ytou call 1992 the future, then Mavic already done it

Haven't read the blurb but one system had small generator in the jockey wheels to power the system so a clunky batter was not required.

A quick google birng up Campag as having made electrnoic sifting system too.

The next thing is definately Mavic MindShift (TM) I saw it Demo'd at the last bike show I was at, they are putting sensors into helmets, they just need to work on reducing the size a bit....

haha im going to follow trend and get mind shift

funny how youve bought this up as my mate mailed me the same thing, different link mind

i dont see the point
as said above, standard cable gears arent broken
they work fine
and the maintenance on those hydro ones doesnt seem realistic, especially if you rip out a line on trail or what not

not a fan really. just seems like expesive bling
same as electronic
more to get clogged/break
although electronic isnt new
arent some roadies using it also?

as suggested, mavic have done it already.

one thing i did like though, is the handleclamp. the split yet pivot thing
that could be very good (if its not been done already  )

so no thanks i will keep my thousand euro
(i dont actually have 1000 euro anyway)

bugger having to agust the gears thinking along the lines

1. bleed gears

2. top and bottom adjusters

3. index

4. do it again

5. re bleed as its all a faff

6. hit it with a hammer

7. rip it all off

8. re-fit the original cable (insert brand of your choice here) system and think to your self i wasn't how much on that sh1t

    you know thats whats gonna happen
