How to stop a steel frame rusting?

Hi there,

I'm building a new steel hardtail, which is going to be the last bike I buy for a long time (thanks to the mortgage!!), and was wondering if there is anything I can do to try and prevent it rusting in the long term?

Cheers

Waxoyl (or any type of heavy oil will do) sprayed down the tubes, then "wiggle" the frame around to make sure the oil gets everywhere. That should protect the inside of the tubes.
For the outside, touch in any paint chips quickly (Humbrol enamel will be available in a fairly close colour), and if rust does form us a bit of Kurerust before painting.

Ashes,

As you live in WAs warm dry climate, rust is unlikely to be much of an issue for you unless you do a lot of riding on the beach - and in the water.

I doubt you'll have to do anything other than wash your bike regularly to keep it in great shape.
