I have seen mention of it on here before but can't find the answer using search.
Can anyone help?
I need to remove some gold prior to getting re-anno'd blue.

Caustic Soda from your local pound shop but go easy at first (start with weak mix, short time period). There's a few guides on YouTube I think.

May leave the part black and need a bit of sanding/polishing to get down to the raw alu.

plus one for oven cleaner. 'easy off' brand in the US works well. but I'm sure any brand will do.

Yeah, just watched a load of you tube vids, mainly from the US , looks pretty simple :)

Easy Off is your solution. Depending on part surface area and shape will determine soaking time. If doing indoors at ambient temps (21C/70F) and as a reference, I have found that Ringle holeys can take about an hour to penetrate ano in fairly good condition. After soaking, rinse with warm water and use a wool brush to clear any residual color. I'm not a metallurgist, but the acidic cleaner can probably weaken the metal so I would be conscious of over exposing the parts.

Caustic soda (oven cleaner/sodium hydroxide) is a strong base (alkali).

After it removes the annodizing it will start on the alluminium underneath, be warned!
