How rubbish is Halfords?

My only gripe with halfords is there false advertising, I looked on there website yesterday for a child carrier for the mrs's stumpjumper, the blurb for the one i chose said...

Child seats do no fit the majority of full suspension bikes but do fit all rigid framed bikes with a traditional frame design.

So off i pops down to the local store picks out the exact same seat but before i bought it i double checked with the assistant that it would fit a 12" framed rigid stumpjumper. No was the reply these will only fit a medium sized frame.

Useless!

My local halfords is quite good to be honest. My lbs is appalling so i use halfords for bits and bobs. Have always found the cycle staff to be friendly and helpful. I think problems arise when you get served by a person not normally in that department.

I think that like all things there are good an bad. I have come across ignorant, clumsy and just plain nasty independent shops too. The only difference is that you see the Halfords name everywhere so the bad ones reputations stick.

Never had any problems buying from them either. But that's not often. But what I have brought was good and cheeper than else were.

went in to halfwits to buy tubes and wanted to ask a member of staff if they could still get hold of long presta valves version for mtb's

waited a while as the mechanic (snigger) was trying to put a screw on block on a cassette hub.

After 5 minutes of seeing him struggle i about turned and headed to my lbs. Never been back.

i find with halfords 99.9% are ok and that .01% of stores have a lack of ok its mainly down to how the staff are trained some go and do the cytech nvq2/3 and other's dont iv'e been into a couple of stores that are run perfectly my local halfords is quite good and if they come across problems they cant deal with they send them to my shop (but they are getting better with time  ) my two pence  and as they say you have start somewhere

many times we have had fun in halfords asking for water tight inner tubes, why buy 3 for 2 inner tubes when i ride a unicycle, but the best ever was to ring up and saying that i was calling from the local shopping centre and wanted some bells for for the shop mobility scooters that we hire out to the shoppers, but due to how busy we was would their be any chance that they could ring a range of bells over the phone so we could hear how loud they was, what a great laugh as they tell you what bell it is then ding dong it down the phone :D :D :D

I love going in when they're busy and announcing when they ask me if the bike ive brought with me is 'in for a service'

*Not a Bloody chance ,not after you ruined the most expensive headset available by levering it off with a screwdriver *
