It def different in every situation i ve overgunned frames to over 60-100 mm plus before and got away with it and in most situations its improved the bike depending on what you do with cockpit bit n bobs and if you like a higher bb actually cant think of many bikes i havnt overgunned up front
but these have all been post 2000 frames
retros are more finickety and closer to road geos they dont like much change up front over plus or minus 15/20 mm and sometimes less than that can wildly change them
its fun to give them a go though and experiment than not you end up learning more about your bikes frame angles and capabilities
i ve never snapped a headtube yet and i ve tried pretty hard, even DH forks on things DH forks shouldnt go and sent off into oblivion ahaha
