How do you tell the difference between Reynolds 853 and 653?

So, I have a frame without decals that was available in both 853 and 653 - how can I tell the difference?

Both frames had the same lugwork, same dropouts and the same cable stops

This is the 653 version

and here is my 853 version also available in blue/ white

653 - ok so the rear dropouts are different but those arrowhead lugs...!

They are Long Shen 300 series lugs and go back as far as 1994

I was trying to give him a practical solution of how to do that, obviously the only true way to tell is to cut all the frame tubes in half and with a digital vernier measure the tube thicknesses :facepalm:
