I reckon its a bit of a con really. People say its lighter but you lose a cog off the front and add one to the back so you don't really save any weight. Aside from that you have a much narrower gear range without the granny. I see it as another way of getting people to spend cash on replacing their whole drive chain for no reason. Great marketing though
