(Semi) sloping we call these, but maybe there's a proper term?

Yes they are horizontal enough. I want to build a SS bike so as long as there is a bit of movement to tension the chain its ok. PM me some more details. Thanks

I wasnt thinking track ends, though I have seen a few retro MTBs that have been converted to track ends.

There were quite a few retro MTBs with horizontal dropouts.
