But they are pretty much the same as the current hubs, I would think.
You'll see some Ti-Glide and Front hub pics in the Archive area.
The is a freehub service guide (in catalouge scan area) which I think should be the same for yours unless it's screw on.
Rear is a screw-on hub. Get a freewheel tool, unscrew the freewheel then tap out the axle. Carefully! One bearing should come out with the axle, the other can be tapped out from within. Refit new bearings by retracing your steps, so to speak. You will need to pull the retaining collars off the axle before tapping out. The earliest hubs had grub screws to keep them on the axle.
thank you all for the insite. how about the front hub, I hear a rythmical ticking when I spin the wheel. not a constant tick like you hear from the rear, more a tick, tick tick tick....tick tick....if you know what I mean
That just sounds like the bearings. If you are wanting to cheat you could just prise out the seals with an small screwdriver and repack the bearing. If there is any play in the bearings then replace.
Replacing the bearings is a trivial job - much easier and quicker than a Shimano hub with loose balls.
If you are around in Hampshire / Dorset I'll show you how...
Okay I maybe a little dumb but how the hell do you get the retaining cap things off these hubs? I have a blue pair purchased early 90's and started to feel a little creaky-ness in front bearing, took it to local bike shop they dropped front wheel ummed and aarghed decided it needed new 6001 2rs bearings they needed to order, put the wheel back in bike and on the ride home the front locked up dead . Thinks I'll do job myself but can't budge the bloody caps. Are they push fit or screwed on or what?
Any help or advice appreciated.
Thanx
