Hope Mk1 ATD - vintage front disc brake

Hi!

Some experts of this forum helped me to identify this brake as very early Hope Mk1 ATD.

Would anyone also have an idea what this is approximately worth? I could not find it anywhere on ebay or google....

Thank you very much for your help!

Ron

I planned to post this in the "How much is it worth...." but it did not work.

@admin: Could you please place it there? Thanks a lot!

Hi Ron, this in my eyes is a mark 1 caliper with a mark 2 motor and hub, the mark 1 hub had no rotor mount and the rotor mounted directly to the hub, there was less than 6 months between them at this early stage of development, things were changing fast.

Unfortunately most people seem to only be interested in the hydraulic hope brakes and don't see value in this early model so they are not worth as much, and as front brakes are far more common than rear the perceived value is not that high for your model. Sold with a hub you are looking at between 20 and 40 gbp, a rim would add value if it was period correct and in good condition.

To be honest the only people that seem to go for these are me and a few 1991 fisher rs1 owners.

In addition to to this yours has been modified quite crudely either as repair or to fit it to a specific fork, this will devalue it slightly so you would be looking at the lower end of my pricing estimate.

I hope this helps but your best guide of price is an eBay sale, as very few come up and you never know who is waiting.

If you can, I would recommend keeping it and using it, the hubs are lovely and the bearings last for ages. (i'm still on my original set after almost 20 years of use) they are easy to set up and work well with either 4 finger canti lever or a v brake lever.

Dear Ken!

Thanks a lot for your reply! Yes, the condition is not that overwhelming, but I hoped for a bit more. I will probably place it in my ebay store and start with USD 99 and "make me an offer".

I also have the wheels with Hope hubs. They are in pretty good condition. I hope to get some money for them, otherwise the purchase of the AMP bike was not a good idea... ;-)

Unfortunately I have too many bikes to keep this. I already have about 25 Campa equipped road bikes in my basement plus 2 Colnago MTBs...

Thanks a lot for your help! The people in this forum are really a great help!
