hope brakes id help

One of my riding buddys has just brought a bike with a odd mix of stuff on it-modern gt peace 29er f/f but with original hope ti QR's + hope brakes leavers/rotors/calipers.calipers have number 3 on em look nice we just wondered how old they were + if there worth owt ?

The no. on the caliper only relates to disc size for that caliper without adapters being used, there's about 8 different models of Hope brakes that use the no. system.
 
The numbers were used on multiple Hope calipers as they indicate the disk size. If they are really old skool they are probably C2's (single big piston per side). Original Mono's (small piston per side) or XC4's (twin pistons per side).

From memory a no.3 fits an ISO mount 185mm front disc and 165mm rear. No 5 is the other common IS mount one that fits 165mm front and 145mm rear.
 
Go on the Hope website and there are pictures of all the calipers and levers they've ever made, with the years too...
