Ah I thought. I’ll buy a few Hope cranks since I have a number of builds to do for the Grom and me…and the ease of swopping axles on them will make them highly adaptable to the various SS and DH builds.

Should have done my research.

Bought Hope pretty little machined tool.
Yep, bolt which says ‘never undo this bolt’ undoes easily.
Then…nothing…Nope. Nothing doing.

Phone Hope.

‘Oh yes…you need to take it to an engineering works to press out the axle..’
Drat

But then fiddling around a bit I can make up a press with my headset press or BB press.
Before I start and waste time or take an arm off….
Anyone done this at home?

Stop now before you end up with wrecked parts, or worse a wrecked smile.
You’ll not generate enough force with a threaded press to keep the axle on. It’ll need a hydraulic press to generate enough force to press it in properly. Even then, I doubt the parts are designed for multiple fittings.

Keep what you can use and sell the rest. You’ll probably break even and may even make a small profit. Cranks aren’t worth taking chances on.

Swapped press-fitted axle?
I can hear the creaking from here!

@clubby is exactly right
Some things are best left alone, even with the proper tools.

You can try your hand with stuff you don't mind throwing away if it doesn't work 👍
