Well I am certainly glad I did not buy it when he offered it to me. He posted on MTBR without photos in the what its worth thread saying that he had a yeti. Several members pm'ed him with lo-ball offers. I pm'd him saying I would like to see it and that I would offer a honest estimate of its value. He never revealed that it was cracked. The photos he sent were very good and I gave him an estimate of between $1300-$1700 if he listed on ebay. I would think that it could go even higher.

After that he emailed me and thanked me for my honesty. He mentioned a few mtbr forum members had offered him $100 bucks. He then offered to sell me the bike for $700 which seemed suspicious.

Here is his email to me:
Aaron, thanks for your response and honesty. The bike, which I know nothing about was given to me by the original owner ( a friend ) who only rode it about 100 miles and it has been in storage for over a decade. It almost ended up in the trash but I took it off his hands not really knowing what it was and thinking I was going to give it my 11 year old nephew. Attached are a few photos and again, thank you, GG

if you need/want more photos please let me know

Aaron, some photos....I really appreciate your help and knowledge. Theses guys are something else with the low ball offers. I would make any of them a deal but I'm not going to let them steal it. But if your interested, I'l hold it for ya, since you seem to be the only real honest person that's replied.
Best regards, G

Aaron, WOW, I had no idea....the "rumpy" guy on the forum offered me 100 bucks. I may not know what it is, but I knew it was more than that. I'm in Northern Ca. about an hour out of San Francisco. Where are you located? Are you interested? if so I'll let it go to you, since your the honest guy, for 700...is that a decent deal? Since I got it for a great deal (free) I'll pass it along to the right person for that. Let me know....and again, thanks very much. GG

Great act huh? I told him I was not interested. Had he been local I may have taken a swipe at it. Glad I did not if it is indeed cracked.

I feel like I am in the middle of a Porno and have to raise my hand and say:

"I don't see a crack......?"

Whats the betting this turns up in the classifieds in a couple of weeks at twice the price and not a crack in sight?

I was in the process of buying this. Was about to transfer the money when 'crack-gate' struck. Have asked for detailed pictures of the seatclamp area on the non-drive side, which is where the crack is meant to be. And haven't heard a peep. Which tells you everything....

Proceed with caution.

Same here, after he offered to sell I said maybe and he said he would wait a week but it is already on CL for less than half what I told him it was worth. I smell a rat.

Whether cracked or not, at least he had the good sense to avoid getting a$$ed out by that rumpy $100 deal.

The guy is playing all of you.

My email to him:

"Ah, very cool. Neat bike for sure. I guess the big question is....is the frame cracked?

As a point of reference (for me anyway), I picked up a similar Yeti recently for $100. Frame was cracked, which really hurt the value of things.
I attached a few pics.

So if there are no cracks and the rear shock isn't blown, thats a good start. Front fork is, I believe too new for that bike as is the saddle, but the purple parts look pretty solid.

Are you taking offers or have a ball park in mind for it? Where are you located as well? I'm up in San Jose, Ca. "

That wasn't my offer, that was a recent experience I had. Which is true. I picked up a Yeti almost exactly like that for...$80 actually. Frame was cracked.

If his frame was cracked too....then yes, I would have offered far less than his asking price, but not $100. Like me or not, give me a little bit of credit here, I know what I'm doing. I've yet to see the guy confirm the frame is in a solid unbroken state. He never replied to me after asking about frame damage. I'm just sayin'.

Eric, if that's true (and I've no reason to doubt it is) then it's good to put the record straight from your side...

$100! - I nearly pissed myself when I read that, purely from an audacity perspective...

However, we do all know that the brake levers alone would fetch that...

;)
