Holdsworth Professional 1974

My obsession with Holdsworth continues and I have just built up this 1975 Holdsworth Professional. The great thing about this is that it is not refurbished and the original paint is in really good condition with a bit of a patina in the blue panels. I have built it with full campag Super Record, Cinelli Stem and bars and Unicantor saddle, just as it would have left the factory. The experts amongst you might spot that the rear derailleur and stem are a generation late for the bike but I am leaving it like this for now. I am going to have to sell a few frames to make some space.

Nice for safety I'd swap the front brake blocks round though and the rear mech cable goes through the circular cable guide to the stop

Thanks for the tips. Cables have been fixed and brake blocks swapped (I'm impressed with the eye for detail!!). I never got on with the toe clips (too much city riding for my wide feet) so even though I have them, I'm leaving them off!

The paint work is in excellent condition for its age lovely looking bike My 78 pro is having its BB faced at the moment as it had to be repainted.

The paint is in great condition. The previous owner had it hanging up in his office apparently so it has been spared alot of the scratches, scrapes and fading alot of others have had. Having had other bikes resprayed I see a massive value in having one in an original condition so I will ensure it is well looked after.

Would look good with tan wall tyres and Tressostar bar tape . Maybe find a SR front mech

For complete 1975 authenticity buy some screw in adjusters for the rear dropouts and screw them right in so the axle is just on the end of the dropout. It what we did back then because we thought the shorter wheelbase made us go faster..... Well. Wouldn’t any 15 year old lol. I think I'm a little bit jealous

So I have since got screws and they are now in place (had to dig them out of my toolbox) and I have been looking for tan wall tyres but not sure what to go for. Thinking Vittoria Corsa or Panaracer gravels but any suggestions would be very welcome.

I am unsure on the front mech. I know what the more common SR looks like but I am thinking that this is a 1st gen one (the rest of the groupset is SR). Might be wrong but look at the catalogue here.

1052/1 is the Nuovo Record. Like the first Gen Dura Ace used a Crane mech I think the SR group came in stages.

Velobase and Disraeli Gears can help but Kevin Sayles (Woodrup) has a a huge collection of Campag front mechs and a time line on his Web page. I have a couple of 4 hole mechs and some NR /GS jobbies but nothing to compare with Mr Sayles lol
