Hi-fi electronics question

So just to close this off: DC offset is a thing I’ve got, but it makes the amplifier with the torroid buzz - if the sound is through your speakers it’s not that. Culprits are dishwasher, and (took some tracking down) heated blankets…..

Gave the 1980s valve pre amp a good clean inside and that took a load of noise away. The DC transformer ‘wall wart’ does still induce a little hum, but by plugging it in a separate socket and moving it away from the rest of the setup, it’s very liveable with.

Quick review of the irDAC with 1796 chip (the later versions are different I believe): insanely good for the modest outlay. Deep controlled yet fruity bass; soundstage delicious. Perhaps a little forward? Nah, it’s like having Stan Getz in the room with you! Will prolly add a decent linear PSU, and then I can only think R2R/ Ladder/resistor DACs like DPA Deltec or Chord will be able to compete.

The Creek must be quite old now, has it had new smoothing capacitors? Probably it's worth replacing them. I always loved my Creek 4140.
