Back then I was I kind of fan of the guy. He added a lot colour to the scene, not only by he personality, but also literally. He also seems to see the world trough happy glasses.
Again you can give multiple interpretations to this. I really dig those Frogskins.
I a lot of my enthousiasm has also to do with that he made to me the obvious right bike choice. The bike he's riding in the article is a nicely made bonded aluminium Miyata Elevation 5,000. There is a review of it in Gallery 2's Manufacturer section. It was a model only somewhere in the middle of the Miyata line up. HBall not only raced the most expensive rigs.

Reading the Vulcano story I realized I must have another pic of that particular bike somewhere. It is a pic of the bike with camera fitted, so they would be able to film the trip down the vulcano. Here its is:
