help with this aheadset please

I ve had this headset for a while it came to me in box unused

when I put the top race on there is some slight movement note how the race has a bevelled edge where it sits against the bearing

should it have one of this shims (not sure what they are called)


none of them fit inside the bearing

Should be a another cone shaped piece that fits inside it and locks it in place when everything is tightened. Is that it in the background?

non of the cone shaped pieces fit (they are spares )

I thought maybe as the top race has an identical bevelled edge to the cone shape piece it was used instead

I see I had them in the wrong order non of the conical rings fit though :cry:

Clear picture of all the parts next to each other might help. Or you got a box of random bits.

I meant first should go top race (which beveled part should fit to bearing) and then split ring, spacers...
Doh :facepalm: cartridge bearing mean that it may well be that split (compression) ring goes first on to bearing. What headset is it ?

I bought a cheapo headset from ebay (Rabid) and the bearing had been put in upside down - it could be the same issue. Try knocking the bearing out and face the angled inside-edge outwards to correspond with the next piece. You can't expect too much for £10 but you would think they know how to assemble them!
