Help wanted with spec and age

I've gotten my hands on a Giant ATX 830 and I'm unsure of the age and complete spec.
I know the following, but some more info:
Suntour m9050 fork
SRAM 3.0 shifter/brake assembly
SRAM 4.0 rear mech
Avid BB5 front disk
I'm wanting to change the shifters for something less bulky and am unsure if the rear cassette is Shimano or SRAM spacing.
Aaaaaaaand, can I use a 'standard' brake lever with the BB5?

you can use a standard lever, and shimano/avid v-brake lever will be fine. The spacing on sram an d shimano cassettes is the same, so it does't matter what the cassette is, however the sram rear mech will only work with sram shifters.
