Help! Rock Shox Judy XC '97 - How to determine travel?

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know how I can tell how much travel the 97 RS Judy XC has?

I want to put coil spring in but not sure which to get. Is it worth getting a better damping cart too?

The total amount of stanchion [not sure how to spell] showing is 110mm [metal lip of lowers to underside of where it joins the crown/yolk]

The squished up boot will compress to 40mm leaving
70mm of travel, so I am guessing they are 63mm version.

Dropout to crown is 420mm

Can anyone confirm travel?

Thanks ,

Chaser.

hey, i cannot confirm yours but i have a '98 long travel (80mm) judy sl, A/C 440mm, lenght of boot 100mm. my indy c 63mm travel, 110mm and A/C 420mm.

generally they either get stiffer with age or sometimes they crumble. So if you can get 70mm of travel, then it's probably an 80mm model that has lost 10mm of travel from the bushings stiffening up but it could be a 63mm model that's had a bushing or two let go

420mm sounds like a 63mm fork to me

do they have the "long travel" sticker on the lowers?

if you can tie the boot back, and fit a zip tie to the stanchion, then you can compress the fork to see how much travel is being achieved

Thanks Guys,
Sounds like it is a 63mm
I've got some Kronos springs and Risse damper for 63mm so I will go ahead and fit them.
Should perform a lot better than standard Judy XC.
Also having lowers painted to match the frame and will fit 28mm RS Samurai seals from SID so I can run without boots.
Cheers,
Ian.

They where 63mm standard and 80mm Long Travel (would have LT label unless somebody changed it themselves)
420mm sound like 63mm

The Coil (top) is the same for both length. (51mm)
The MCU for a
63mm will be 100mm
80mm will be 115mm
at new condition.
