Help required to identify a Birmingham built Sun

Re:

From memory I think the Cyclo ends were first made early 1950s, perhaps 1952. Clearly this is a Sun/Parkes product.
WBP was 1951, Shiel was pursuit champ 1955 (from memory)

It was 1955 when I met Peter Parkes as he was desperately trying to get a few orders. Commuter bikes were dying, and recreational cyclists were not enough to support more than the few local specialist shops.

Re:

Hi, can I throw a possible into the ring, in 61/62 Sun production was being transferred to Worksop, I have had a 1961 Manxman with a Birmingham badge, this I believe, is a Sun Wasp made nearly to a Carlton Flyer spec ( using up old Sun stock - decals, etc ), the 'J' serial number is the standard Carlton number for 1962 ish, it all looks probable, as my 62 Flyer has similar fittings but has the 'new for that year' the pointy RC5 lugs, not the classic flyer lugs which are on the Sun. Just a thought. Terry

Thank you for the pictures!
Do you know the age of your bike?
I have attached additional pictures of mine.
All the best
Ian.

Ian, I cannot give you a date or frame number . Bike is long gone .
It was one of many i saved at the local tip a few year back .

Certainly late 50s, possibly very early 60s on the cusp on the Carlton 'takeover' to Worksop. Those lugs are typical Carlton long line lugs.

Re:

Thank you all for your assistance.
It seems the frame is slightly more vintage than me!!
Just to let you know that I plan to remove all of the black paint and then preserve what is left of the original paint / decals as best I can, possibly clear coating the painted section of the frame.
Thanks again.
Ian.
