Help please - Steel GT serial numbers

Another Karakoram for you. I’m assuming this is a 98/99 frame based on the serial, but would be great to get confirmation! 😊

Thank you. That's more recent than the numbers I've collected so far and another new format. Most the later ones seem to have the same year code as the model year, but I think yours could be 1999. The two colours listed for 1998 were Boss Black and Atomic Red, so I'm going on that, but someone more knowledgable might be able to confirm the year.

No problem! I think you’re right. I’ve had a Google of other 1999 Karakorams and the decals are a perfect match.

1991 "Blue Widow" Karakoram I'm working on at the moment :

Thank you! This is helpful because I have a few 1991 Elite serial numbers but this is the first for the Karakoram (with a superior paint scheme to the plain black alternative scheme of the Elite).
I think the 656 probably has another character before it under the cable guide, since that is usually a 4 digit number, but that is just a sequential number so not important for the interpretation.

Hi! I've just got a GT frame which is making me crazy to identify as it's been coated in black. Original paint seem kinda white. Did not strip it hardly yet...
S/N: T9110 (drive side) A046 4419 (drive side).
It comes with a GT 3D fork and LX groupset. Nothing else on the bike seems original.
I would say is a steel frame from the 1992 catalogue but the groupset doesn't match those that came with a 3D fork. Also the rear dropouts have a small screw for adjustment, which again doesn't match a bike with an LX groupset.
Hope you can help me out as you are doing an excellent job here (yes, I red the full thread ;))
I have some other GT's at home well identified, shortly I will share SN with you for the database.

I'm away from home so I don't have access to my spreadsheet of numbers at the moment to compare the model code.

Definitely a 1992, with the frame made in October 1991, and steel. If I remember correctly the rear dropout adjustment screws were Karakoram upwards, but the 3D fork suggests higher in the range. If the fork is original to the bike that means Avalanche, Bravado or Team Avalanche.

The 400LX cranks (May 1991?) are not right for the range that year, I think, so are likely a later change.

🤞If there is any trace of the previous paint or tubing decals under the black, that could help!
Just re-read and noticed you mentioned white paint under the black, the two white bikes in the '92 range were the Avalanche and the Timberline. I think the Timberline came with the 400LX chainset.

Thanks PhillB for your reply. I have to check and compare, I'm away from home at the moment, I have a Tequesta 1992, and Karakoram 1992 as well, will see if the SN helps. The rear dropouts are not matching a Timberline... weird...
Sorry about the shi#$ images, aren't mine, looks like the previous owner worshiped the devil and painted black and red...
The box arrived home but I couldn't see it. So don't want to wait your time guys till I have it on hands.
