Bushings: In stock form, Judys have one upper and one lower bushing per leg. HOWEVER, there are several advantages to installing a second set of lower bushings. By increasing the amount of contact area between the upper and lower tubes, wear is decreased considerably and fork rigidity increases. You should expect, however, a longer break-in period during which your fork may be quite sticky, but don?t worry; the wait will be worth it. Use the older steel bushings if possible.

This guy has lots of older forks maintenance tips in his website.

It's a good site.

The recommendations for double lower bushings refer to the normal height bushes only - the new style bushes are effectively 'double height' anyhow.

If you're struggling for a set could source you a set from the UK. PM if you want.

Removal of old bushes and refitting is tricky without proper tools. Sure some inginuity and a socket set would do the trick.

Almost impossible:

Do you know if this is the right oil bath system?

So, I went to the only Rock Shox authorized dealer in São Paulo this saturday, to get my Judy rebuilt.

The bike shop mechanic, with a lot of SIDs and REBAs around, full of snobbery, looked at my fork like it was covered in snot: "but this is a 1996 fork, we don´t have spare parts"....

My blood started to boil when I said "It uses the same SID bushings, 28 x 10mm up and 28x20mm down". And he said "I´m not sure about that, I´m going to call to the spare parts department next monday to see if that´s true."

I could read his mind through his face: I bet he was thinking "What a hell of a piece of crap he bring me to service..."

Let´s wait until tomorrow. I´m not going to buy a US$ 1200 brand new SID to put on an old school bike.

i know this is an old thread but i have a set of judy sl's from around 1995 and i was looking on some tips on servicing any ideas for a fork novice??
