Help needed, issues with me converted single speed

Retro Newbie
Hi, thanks for taking the time to read.
my dad and i took an old raleigh pioneer and turned it into singlspeed using the existing cassette. When riding it is fine then if i have to go uphill and therefore push the pedals harder the rear wheel comes slightly forward out of the rear dropout meaning the chain goes slack.
What can i do to prevent this from happening?
I would be greatfull of any help/advice

thanks

Are the wheels quick release? you have to be quite "brutal" sometimes with the lever to make sure it's tight enough. Either that or the dropouts are a little thin and the spindle is binding on the QR nut.

If it's a solid spindle then apply more torque LOL

Use decent traditonal Qr's eg steel Shimano or Campag.
Dog them up tight.
The wheel is no more likely to move with a SS than a geared bike.
Conversions often mean axles and spacers tec have been played with. As above check that your Qr axles ends inboard of the dropout. Very little if any, axle in the dropout is needed.
