HELP NEEDE on my Marin pine mountain 1995 project.

Hi all,
Just started on my Marin pine mountain 1995, I just got my hands on some XTR v brakes so I'm now trying to decide if to go with the Grip shift option (which is original on this model) or stick with some good old shifters, Anyone help on this one.
I also need to buy some V Brake levers
The bars are 25.4mm which i have the original Marin lite and some club roost go fast comp 7005.

Im after advise and if possible to buy

Sounds like a nice project you have there, I've got a 95 Pine Mountain myself and its a great bike.

Its really down to personal preference when it comes to choosing shifters, I hate gripshift myself and my Pine Mountain is running Dx thumbies but maybe you get on with gripshift better than me.

You should find some suitable brake levers in the for sale section but if nothing you fancy comes up then pop a wanted ad up and someone should have what you need.

If you can then I would stick with the original flat Marin bars, I'm right in thinking the Club Roost bars are risers?

The bars are risers
I just find the marin bars low, they are att to a quill stem.

Is it possible to change the bike to AHead instead of the quill set up,
As you can tell im new to this

There's no reason why you can't change to an ahead system, you just need a new headset and stem.

There's also no reason why you shouldn't fit risers, but for some reason they don't look that good with a rigid fork - the more travel you have, the better risers look, I don't know why. But if you need risers and you don't need bar ends, then fit risers.

[The only absolute no no is risers with bar ends - you would obviously be shunned if you fitted risers with bar ends]

I have a set of marzocchi xc 700 retro fitted.

OK, well if you want to keep the Marzocchis, your best option may be to keep the threaded headset as well and fit a quill to ahead adapter. This will add a bit of weight, but it will enable you to fit an ahead stem. The advantage is that most ahead stems are front-loading, whereas it can be quite difficult or impossible to fit the bend of a riser bar through the clamp of a quill stem.

Ill try these bars through the original stem first and see how I get on
The xt shifters are a problem now as the 737(I think that's what they are) are only canti as I am being told
