Help me with this GT please...

Hi there,

I'm new here, so be gentile....
I bought my self a used GT for 250 euro's:
- XT shifters
- Problably LX brakes.
- XTR hubs, although old one's. Mavix 117 SUB CD rimms.
- Rock Shox Mag21 fork, with Rond headset.

Help me out here....

1. Which frame model is this? I'm guessing Zaskar but I'm not sure. Frame is painted (some powder coating) new, and really looks gorgeous! Not one single scratch one it. Damm light too

2. What's the headset size of a GT? My guess is 1 1/8. Chris king will be first upgrade

3. That fork is the only bad thing. Is it worth fixing? Guessing it's busted, because when applied pressure on the steer, the thing goes down, but doesn't come back!

4. Are those XT-cranks?

5. Want to put Crank brothers Candy SL (the blue ones) on it. Any experiences with those?

Last be not least, tell me what your upgrades would be!

aint a Zaskar, as it has a curved GT on the top tube, so poss a Pantera

Hey

If u want to be sure what model it is, u can mail the serial number to GT.
They can tell u what model and year it was.
There was even a website where u could enter the serial and it gave u the info. The bad news is that i cant find the url anymore.

U can be sure it aint a Zaskar because of the curved end of the toptube that says GT. A zaskar has a flat end.

For the cranks, its easy to check. At the back of each crankarm, there's a modelnumber imprinted. Post this here and then we can easily tell u which it is, or u can have a look at http://datenbanken.freepage.de/traut/SHIMANO.html or at http://members.home.nl/children-of-the- ... groups.htm

Also appears to have been repainted at some point...I don't recall that color blue on any of their aluminum frames with that construction. What is the serial number on the frame.

either on the rear drop-outs or under the BB

Its a nice powder coat blue! The forks might just need air in them.

MAG21 are air/oil forks, if they don't come up they will have need air. Air is the spring.


Cranks look like STX from the rings and look.

Toch maar weer oude hobby opgepakt. Heb de echte witte zaskar LE gehad, jaren terug. Die was me helaas te groot, dus weggedaan.

I went to a bicycle-shop today, asking the guys there for a special rockshox pump to inflate my Mag 21. The looked at the fork and did'nt even recognise it .

Anyway, it was just a matter of filling the airchambers with the right amount of air. It's working like new again.
