help me identify this kona

raba1991

Retro Newbie
Hi, I picked this up about a year a go, pretty sure its a kona due to the ovaling of the seat tube, needs paint so want to try and choose an original colour. New to mountain bikes and gears in general always ridden track bikes so go easy on me.

Re:

Many bikes used oval sections at the seattube/bottom bracket area, it's quite standard in early 90s bikes.

It's a Kona because it looks like a Kona, low to mid range one.

Serial number?

Re:

cheers i thought it was like you said it just looks like one haha, this is all thats on the bb shell.

Hmmm, I think a thick powdercoat sometime in its history - is that stamped numbering around the left hand side of the shell? You may need to sand the paint down a bit for it to come clear.

Re:

1991 Fire Mountain. Rare but they do exist in yellow. Early 2000 decals
Although the day is 1991 November, making it a 1992 model.
Which would account for the lack of seat binder bits.

But is the same level I thought it was, I had posted a while ago but seems it didn't complete the post to the forum :-(

so after finally getting the bottom bracket out, i weighed the frame today it comes in at 2.3kg, it's a 20" frame, but has about 2-3 inches of seatpost remaining stuck inside the frame that needs to be dissolved, does this coincide with it being a fire mountain?

Is the stuck post aluminium?
It might be the only effort it's worth is to save the forks for another frame.
