help me identify my orange!

Hello mate, only just seen your PM.

Right:
If the seat clamp is separate, and there is no cable stop on the wish bone then it is 1997 onward.

If there is a cable stop on the wishbone and it has top tube cable routing for all cables then it is 1994-1997.

If it has only 2 cables run on the top tube and the front mech is run over the BB shell then it is 1992-1994.

I hope this helps, thanks for the kind comments about mine! Yeah, I kinda like it! ;)

date my orange

well here i am after 2 more years! the clockwork is proving a dream.

just came back on here and realised we only got part way through dating m ride!

StickLegs - i definitely have rear mech & rear brakes ONLY routed on top tube.

The seat tube has a step in it about 3 inches down from the opening.

So I guess that makes it 92-94?

Given that - can any one help me get some new front forks?

The judy's are knackered, and i either want some rigids (period if poss) or a trick pair of soggy ones - but i need them to lock out as do a lot of bus eating.

if you could help me with the sizes etc - that would be great

Cheers

forks for my orange clockwork

Hi you guys,

My clockwork has a pair of pre historic rockshox judy xc's.

I want to get something fixed up front - you guys are always saying its pace or nothing, so here goes.

My bike has now been (semi) officially dated as a 1992 (cheers you lot!) so i need to know what my options are.

will rc30 or rc 31 just fit straight on?

what else should i be looking at?

any one want my judys?

thanks again you clever lot

paulos

Pictures Pictures and Pictures to date and well just look at.

JUDY's are fine, what's wrong with them ? If you're giving them away i'll have them for spares don't mind paying postage.

1992 would mean the JUDY would be long for them but shouldn't be a problem.
rigid, look for 390mm ish F7/F9, Orange Alu of whatever else they did. chromed PACE rigid forks where very common on these as well.

As A207 means the frame was built in July 1992, it is either a 1992 or a 1993 model.

One change around then is that up til some point in the 92/3 area, the seat tube was scalloped at the top and had a sleeve-type butt at the joint with the top tube and the stays, as in the first of these photos. The second photo shows a very late 94 Clockwork, in much the same style as a 94 C-16R with plain seat tube. I believe they went over to that style some time in the 93 model year. So depending on which style yours is will give you some guide as to where it fits in to the progression.

Anthony - you rock.

its a 92 as i have the scolloped top, and the sleeve running 2 inches down.

just tried to attach some pics - they wont pick up as in a wierd (semi recovered) format - will take some fresh ones.

so where does that leave me forks wise?

Fork as wise as mentioned above.
THE forks for it where ROCK SHOX MAG20 / PACE RC-35 in suspension terms
Orange Aluminium or PACE RC-30 where the rigid fork upgrades.

In 1993-ish along came the F7 (Tange Strut like copies) that replaced the standard bent forks and updated RockShox/Pace forks.

Of course that's keeping it on spec to how they are advertised to buy.

BUT rigid forks would need to be short of the era really, none of this suspension corrected stuff.

Suspension, if you are fine with the JUDY on there, you may be fine with 60mm travel mid to late 90's forks.

Modern replacements, no idea.
