Help me date my new Raleigh!

Hi team.

Back after a long absence - can’t wait to update you on a few of my projects.

Check this tank out - anyone know which year it is?

It looks like it has never been ridden!

I normally ‘cruise’ up old MTB’s by putting big white tyres and comfy bars on - but I feel like this should be kept original.

It looks like it should be in a museum in Nottingham somewhere!

The paint job is to die for - it’s a metallic green colour which probably looks poor on these photos.

It weighs a ton, so I guess it’s not the best ‘ascender!’

Anyways - let me know if you know the era

Many thanks

Paulo

Re:

It's a bit difficult to answer your question from that selection of photos.
Details like the rear mech and shifters are often useful clues to the date of manufacture.
But late eighties/early nineties looks about right.

It's a low end Raleigh complete with centre ridge Cheng-Shin tyres.

Nice condition but I wouldn't necessarily be expecting a call from the museum to soon.

Re:

Thanks all - I’ll get some better photos tomorrow.

Yeah the tyres are pretty special - I think if I deflate them - they will surely fall to pieces!

Re:

Here we are.

The bars are so cool

What about the painted reflector mounts!

Thanks. It’s so clean I might have to keep it!

It cost £15 so I just need to convince the wife that 16 bikes isn’t really much different from 17, whilst reminding her that marriage after all is about nurturing ones passions!

Good score for £15. I'd definitely want to keep it. Do you mean 17 bikes isn't much different from 16 :D
