Dirt Disciple
I am currently getting my Dawes kickback back into working order and have found the hub a bit lumpy on the front wheel-its marked as a mavic 531 and the plan was to strip and repack with grease. Is this possible as I can't find any info on the site or on the web.
If you can help please do so!!!
Cheers Paul

The Mavic 531 front hub is a variation on Mavic's classic 501. Click here for a big diagram:

As you can see, there are two sealed cartridge bearings. If it feels lumpy, rather than just gritty or dry, it's possible the bearings have been damaged by overtightening the adjusting collar, but you could try just backing it off a little. To get to the bearings, you need to remove the two threaded bearing covers. Mavic make a special tool for this, or you can use a simple pin spanner.
