At the time your bike was built, Barry Hoban was associated with Coventry Eagle, at that time they had setup a factory in Newtown. They had a range in 531 I think that your bike is from that range aimed at audax/ touring, it is not as produced they came with drop bars, double chainset, sporty saddle, rear rack, NO prop stand. I cannot see in the photo but OEM had QR hubs, & alloy rat trap pedals, clips & straps.I had a bike shop around that time & had a franchise for Coventry Eagle among others At that time they were good value for money.

Dont want to disagree with Little Al here but that bike is pretty original apart from the saddle. Coventry Eagle did a high end roadster with a 531 main tubed frame, all alloy bits and 5 Simplex gears. It cost around £120 in the early 1980's.

Re:

Thanks for the help guys, The hubs are Malliard, the rims regida, Shimano Altus lt 5 speed.
Whatever the model it is a sweet ride and I've already put my old brooks b17 on it and am awaiting an Ideale I picked up for 20 quid.
Next up is Bull bars and some modern wheels so I can stop in the rain. I wish I could afford to do it all at once but I was laid off a couple of months ago so am very limited in what I do and when I do it.
Considering a single speed conversion but am worried that it will limit my riding range....
~EDIT~
Yes it does look remarkably like the super touriste on ebay, I didn't pay anywhere near as much as that went for either so I may have picked up a bargain there, I paid 50 notes for mine :D
