Help Identifying Holdsworth Please

Hi everyone

Just a little help if at all possible.

Just picked up this cheap Holdsworth. I've fancying a bit of restoration for a while and came along this bike very cheap.

I have checked out http://www.nkilgariff.com/ but can not see anything on it and the same on other vintage bike websites.

I have attached all the photos from the main parts of the bike. The frame number is very short but I will have to remove the forks to be sure. The super 68 brakes seem to make the bike from the late 1970's but the chain set makes it 1980's. No braze ons for the brake cables either.

Can anyone help me in identifying the year and make? Would love to make it all up with Campag N.R as I am in to rush. Could even strip the frame and respray it.

Why use old style brakes with 'new' shimano crank? Seems to be a mish mash of different era equipment

Not at all I think Chas Roberts Cliff Shrub were some of their frame builders. Frame was made 73 going by the frame number. you can check out holdsworths history on classic lightweights

So the levers and crank could have been added at a later date? They seem to be 'modern' for the rest of the old Campy stuff

For sure gear levers are periodish but not that chainset nor the brake levers. you will find that frame will only take old style nutted brakes are the wheels 700c or 27inch

wheels are 27".

So would it be best to find all period stuff and restore it to original.

Wheels seem from a later age too?

Doesn't quite look like a fastback mistral, I wonder if it's one of these?

Or something different ?

Yes the seat stays appear to be shot in lower down than the Fastback Super Mistral, more like those on a Raleigh Professional, but slightly different shape.

I'm not sure that the 73 actually means 1973 in the 4 digit number, - that would indicate that they didn't anticipate making more than 99 frames in the year. One of my Holdsworthy frames is number 8548 and it's a 1976 model.
