Help identifying GT MTB please!

Retro Newbie
Hi all. I hope ive posted this in the right place. I was wondering if any of you could help identify this GT bike. I'm guessing its a mid 90's Avalanche going by the components, but i was hoping someone else could be more exact. The GT website isnt much help and i cant find anything much in google images to help me be certain. It has GT stamped in the end of the top tube by the seat clamp and also a small GT on the flat part of the frame above the rear QR. Its an Alu frame and there are light blue colour paint specks in some of the nooks and crannys, so i assume it was this colour before being stripped to bare metal. Whether the blue was original or not, i'm unsure. You cant see in the photo but the frame has a nice brace on it between the seat stays above the rear wheel. I can post more photo's if it helps.

I'm thinking of attempting my first restoration as the frames really nice and i'm developing a fondness for the retro bikes of my youth, but i already have a lot of bikes so it might end up looking for a good home. I'd just really like to know what it is before i decide what to do with it. I have used a bit of autosol on the top tube since the photo and it polishes up well!

Any help at all would be most appreciated. Many thanks and great site!

Welcome.

Its certainly not original spec from the kit its wearing now. Any chance of a few more shots?

looks like a generic mid range gt from 95/96/97 or so
anything from an agressor to a backwoods
nice frame tho

oh welcome

ive just started polishing mine mate and am 200% sure that is the same as mine and thats a avalance le cheers second from top of the alloy gt bikes so well worth it  my seat clamp is forward facing and conected to frame thats the only diff

Looks the same as my Aggressor, does it have a material number stamped on inside dropouts? I think mine says 7005.

I make mine a 2001 or 2002 as the dropouts got fancier after that.

Love my GT now I've stripped it and its satin black!

Thanks for the help so far fellas. I'll take a few more pics in the next day or two and post them up. Most the kit is in pretty dire nick TBH, especially the rock shox judys. Both internally and corroding on the lowers. Its rideable though. I think if stripped right down and polished, the frame could be built up into something really nice. Unfortunately i doubt i'll have the time what with a few Motorbike projects and a campervan on the go though!

trust me that there is a avalanche

Yeah, i think its an Avalanche after searching some more. The forks and groupset point to the le too. I think its about a mid 90's vintage rather than 2000's too. Though ive been wrong before! I'll still post some more pics up when i get chance though.

Cheers.
