Help how easy is it to build a wheel??

I think that modern Mavic XM317's, XM 717's and XM117's have more or less the same profile, width and spoke length as 220's. They are also pretty much identical to the 221's, 117's, 217's and the 517's which Mavic produced from about 1995 onwards.

In fact if you remove the stickers you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference with these rims. Good to know if you're building up some wheels on your retro hubs that you are riding off-road. That way if you trash you're rim you know it's easy to replace. You can even swap the original stickers if you're careful with a hairdrier and some spraymount.

XM317's are about £22 and XM117's come in at about £16. Or if you want something a little lighter go for the XM717 at around £35.

Unless you are getting them cheap, I would decline buying them.

If a spoke has split the rim (god know how) there has been quite some force go through it and you'll likly need new spokes and then you're best off buying the full lot (£15 to £20 for DT double butted set).

You're rims will not match either, the 'Grey' rims of the M220 where the more expensive
MAVIC 220 STEEL GREY - 26" - 28-32 or 36 hole - 22mm wide shaped like the 117 with single wall, one piece eyelet $ 54.99
of the 220 and matching up to grey is not going to be easy. Pretty much silver or black now.


The ERD is 542 so you'll want something close to that, as mentions XM317 X717 are around there. But they are narrower rims and will look completely different.

Oh sugar blast not good then, i'm screwed. I have lost the pic of damage it was these of ebay got wheels, tubes and tyres for £55 after refund.

I am still worried but what was said here, will it need new spokes???

One thing to remember when changing rims is that if you don't use the exact same rim the spoke lengths might change, as different rims sometimes use different length spokes, even though you are using the same hub and cross pattern (i.e. 2-cross, 3-cross, etc.).

Hi everyone wheels have turned up and all fine apart from the crack in rim . The rim says mavic 220 ub control 559x17-6106.

Which rim will best match that?????
