Two quick problems that need a swift diagnosis

1) Got a 96 RTS. Struggling like hell to work out how to rig V-brake on the rear where i took off the old Maguras. Can anyone send me some pics or advise?

Ps: does it use the canti mount? Are canti mounts valuable? - i have a spare from an ebay purchase which i might sell to raise funds.

2) I've got a 1992 Karakoram - owned since birth. I've stripped it to the frame ready for a paint job but noticed a little 'issue' with the mech side rear dropout. there's a single hairline crack where the dropout adjuster screw goes. what should i do? bikefix in london said £100 to replace the dropouts which isn't feasible. Given it's a steel frame will it be fine and i'm being paranoid?

Could i get it repaired with a bit of spot welding etc? Know anyone good in London?

See pics of the Karakoram problem

Thanks GT Docs - much appreciated.

;)

What is the purpose of that hole in the dropout? It seems like a dumb place to drill a hole, but I suppose it's there for a reason... :?

Depends how confident the welder is!
Ive welded head tubes back on loads of times and ridden them.

can you advise how you'd approach a weld here? Be useful to brief my welder of choice.

it held a screw as an adjustable dropout. all the early GTs had them. in hindsight it is a ridiculous place to drill a hole.

Vs don't need cable stops - at a push (and especially if you've got magura hose guides) just run a full length outer from lever to noodle, easy!
