HELP - 89 Tufftrax headset stack height

Hi there everyone.

I'm new to this fantastic website, so I hope I'm posting this in the right place! (apologies if not)

I've been inspired to restore my 1989 Saracen Tufftrax (the blue powdercoated model) and need some info on the headset size, as it currently has an Aheadset and boingy forks! (I know, sorry everyone!)

I know it's a 1" threaded headset, but could someone help me out with what stack height I would need, and possibly recommend a suitable headset?

Any help would be much appreciated.

one of my all time faves that bike. if it's aquarius blue, then it's an 88 if it's apple green (both powdercoated) then it's an 89.

Sad that i know that but true.


no ide on headset height, but I know it was a Shminao Exage Trail headset (the same as an exage mountain but dark grey not light grey plastic coating.

Some later 88 models came with deore headsets and pedals instead.

BTW forgot to mention it's not been blue since a respray in about 97! However it will be powdercoated as near to the original colour as I can find. It's currently black with red Ballistic forks. Will post some pics for you all.
