Hello from newbie

Retro Newbie
Hello Retrobikers, signed up yesterday after lurking for ages and thought I should introduce myself :)

Sheffield rider, interested in all bikes old and new, been riding properly since about 1996 and have never thrown a bike away so I have quite a packed (if rather worthless and horrendously messy) mancave.

My tastes probably aren't as retro as most - my particular favourites are bikes that I lusted over as a mid-to-late-90s teenager with eys bigger than my wallet - examples being the SVDH4000 Dales as ridden by Missy and Miles, the red Girvin-equipped Klein of Caroline Alexander and the Lawwill Yetis, Turner Burner DHs and other various mid-90s exotica that filled the pages of magazines.

Anyway, that's me, and my reasons for liking the site. Seems rude to sign up to a forum without an introduction, so hello :)

Sell us all your good stuff cheap before you learn its true value ;)

Greetings, jackthedog. And Happy Friday.

Sounds as though you've some interesting bikes, get them in readers wives asap so we can drool over them.

Thank you for the welcomes.

Haha oh dear, I probably wasn't clear :) Alas, the bikes I listed were just some of my favourites to give an idea of my particular preferred flavour of retro :)

Unfortunately I'm one of those annoying people that don't replace things until they are broken, so my not-particularly-retro stable is far less exotic, consisting of:

A 1995 Gary Fisher MahiMahi. My first 'proper bike' that took me round the block, round the peak and from coast to coast as a skinny over-excitable oik.

A 1997 Orange P7 that carried me through my later teenage years, getting used for everything from kerb hopping to XC to DH to fetching pizzas, performing faithfully with it's bodged-back-together flared headtube. After 10 years of abuse, it finally retired from commute hack duties last summer with a cracked rear wishbone.

A 1999(?) Heavy Tools Dual that was my ride of choice through my student years, being trashed around town and trashed through the woods and generally getting abused. It's dented and tatty but it's built like a tank and going strong for those odd occassions when I feel like wheelying in the park when nobody's looking :)

And then I grew up and got a job, which is where the 2004 Giant VT came in, which is my current ride.

And then there are the heaps of parts that are twisted, snapped, bent, broken, worn out and generally knackered that I hate to throw out because I'm a sentimental idiot...

So nothing particularly retro or exciting, it has to be said :)

But if anyone has an Alexander replica Klein with Girvins for sale, that could change ;)
