Headset advice

Two questions:

1) with a threaded headset, is it wrong to use a spacer between the top locknut and bearing cup nut? (I can just about cope aesthetically - wanted to check it's ok mechanically. Can't be bothered to cut 5mm off the steerer tube so fancied using a spacer)

2) what's the best gloopy stuff to repack headset bearings with? Would copper grease be suitable at all (as I've a big tube of it!)

Cheers,
S

No problem.

If you mean copper anti-seize, then no, it's not what you want. Any ordinary bearing grease will do - whatever you use for hubs and so on. Finish Line, Castrol LM, Duckhams Keenol, whatever you have lying around. But not copper anti-seize.
