Not knowing Klein how would one check/know it's genuine?

Perhaps ask him to email you the serial number. Someone on here will be able to identify it as genuine or not from that.

Must be pretty hard to fake a pre-Trek Klein though? They had some pretty distinctive features..!

Re:

Some advice I received when I brought mine:Klein Attitude defects

serial numbers both frame and fork, dents which can be anywhere, chain suck, cracked seat tube at bottom of key way, headset bearings will feel stiff if hardly worn, I am yet to see any with play in them, BB should be smooth and no play at all, wear on dropouts from wheels in and out, corrosion or paint lifting especially around cable entry exit holes and BB area, cut down MC and crimped ends from bar ends, rounded out Ti stem bolt head, anti chain suck device present with the thin alloy spacer plate between it and the frame, spinning bottle cage and chain suck rivnuts, opened up rear brake cable holes to fit V brakes, rear mech thread-can be cross threaded or worn.

I now know the full extent the full history is this saga, hours of reading through the history on the forum and I'm gobsmacked.

The 'new' current owner is clearly the dodgy seller but as I live in Manchester I think a bank (NOT visiting one before hand) holiday viewing is essential, I might even take some photos of it to prove of course I went to see it, if they let me take some photos.

I want to see if it actually exists, if if does and its in my hands should I by it for £500... too many bikes in the garage but if it is there what is it worth with the scratches etc? £1000 , £1950 ?!

Hmmm

I don't think you could call him the new owner as I recall he had this bike up for sale on here when Hazel was selling it on ebay so seems to me they are one and the same, when it first appeared on here posted by Hazel with the sob story about husbands pride and joy ect it seemed to have a pretty good spec and values in the circa £2000 were being advised, since then it seems to have had a dramatic down grade on spec and some of the original parts were sold on ebay, one of our members did actually buy the crank set and I think he did so before coming across the original thread, advertised as good condition ready to fit ect it turned out to be bin fodder with busted peddle threads and an ebay dispute was opened with a refund and negative feedback left, my advise would be to give that bike a wide berth. its been returned once it appears and if you plan on shifting it on it wont be an easy task as every one knows the bike and may be suspicious of why its back up for sale again.
