Have you wired up a Novatech dynamo hub?

Hi, I'm aware this is not a strictly retro subject (although our road tandem is of a certain age) but I'm stuck wiring up a Novatech Hub Dynamo to run front and rear lighting for our Dutch tour later this year. The previous Dynatech BB mounted centre tread dynamo needed wire bolted to the front brake to get it working but this one is a mystery. I did read ages ago the connections are mislabelled on these hubs so it could be in back to front but I've yet to try it.

I haven't played with one of these, so treat what follows with caution.

From the picture here, the silver-coloured contact is the earth:

as it attaches to the axle locknut. That doesn't look like a very reliable way of making contact to me, so what I would do is either:

1: run 2-core cable front and rear to avoid relying on the frame as a contact

or better:

2: just run all the power to the front light (again, with a 2-core cable) with a 3W halogen bulb. Use a battery-powered LED rear light.

I'm running one of these on my commuting bike, powering a 3W luxeon. The silver coloured connection is earth. If you're using a shimano connector, the wires go the opposite way to the label.
