Haro Extreme Comp 1991 build

With the bottom bracken now unstuck by an expert mechanic, the frame is now 100 % ready to start being built on :xmas-cool: Just for fun, I just put the bare frame on the kitchen scale: almost dead on 3 kg. Nice.

My first photo of the frame since it came into my possession, taken in bad light conditions.

Now, looking into the BB shell, I see a brown mess. Any suggestions about what to do to clean that stuff up? (I hope it's just old, dried grease, not rust...)

Mine - they can look pretty cool!

Included NOS Haro Wing bars and stem (31.8mm 23 years ago!) and the original forks.

everything on mine was original too, except it did have my hope wheels and charge saddle from my santacruz for a while. being a year previous to rob's it had the same bars but straight and cable routing through the stem

Thanks for showing your own Haro Extreme's guys :) I did actually check out pics of others' Haro Extremes before deciding to get one of my own, and yours were among the bikes that convinced me to do it.

Which years are your frames from?

Sean, I noticed you used a Hope rear hub in your build, but don't these frames have 130 mm rear axle spacing (mine seems to)? Did you bend the frame open by 5mm, or do you have a later frame than mine?

mine was stamped may 1990, robs was a 1991.... the spacing on mine was 135, and it came with a 130mm spaced lx rear wheel which was overtightened on the quick release to make it fit and the gears were out of alighnment. thats partly the reason for running the hopes until i sold the bike

hope that helps, sean

Thanks for the info, Sean. I now wonder whether my frame might have got bent in the post, or whether, god forbid, an earlier owner might have bent the frame to take a 130 mm axle.

Can't help you any further I'm afraid, I don't know too much about these frames. That said its not very likely that a steel frame such as this could get bent in the post. Maybe the 91 frames were 130mm I don't know, if that is the case I still have the wheels that came with my extreme and the rear one is 130mm. Could possibly sell if you were interested

Sean
