Handlebar got stolen

Parked my Mercier Kilo TT Pro I got a few years back at school over the weekend. When I came to it, my bike was in this condition. Only the handlebar, stem, and the front light was gone. The guy brought the hex key specifically to do this! And screw out the brake cable too... Wondering why he left the front wheel there. Thought it was one of the more expensive parts. Weird.
Now I need to figure out how to replace the handlebar + stem + headset, which I've never done before. Looks like it would be about $100+ to do that (looking at parts from bikeisland)? Would getting the set from an older road bike work? Any thoughts would be helpful

Re:

They probably took those because brake/shifters/bars/stem can be expensive - but are a hell of a lot more portable than a wheel.

Fitting older parts should work. The main thing to look out for is whether the stem/headset is a threadless one or not. It almost certainly is if it's less than a decade or so old.

Then make sure you have bars to fit the stem (there are a couple different standards now), and that your shifters etc are compatible with your existing mechs.

by the looks there were no brifters? Fixie style?

Probably took them as they just liked you bars.

Years ago at my Uni there was someone going around and stealing seat/post out of peopels bikes, so people started taking them into class with them, so he/they just stole the clamps so peopel had to ride home all slammed... think it was don to be funny rather than for selling. Either way pretty lame.
